Bearcats win despite six turnovers, move to 2-0 - Examiner.com

It was anything but pretty, but the Cincinnati Bearcats remained undefeated with a 23-7 victory over Delaware State, Saturday night.

The Bearcats (2-0 overall; 1-0 Big East) gave away six turnovers Saturday, repeatedly passing up chances to build on their lead over the Hornets. Four of those turnovers came at the hands of Cincinnati quarterback Munchie Legaux, including two interceptions and two fumbles, a couple of which came in the Hornets' red zone.

The Bearcats' sloppy play Saturday was a marked step back from their impressive victory over Pittsburgh in the season's opening week. Against their conference rival, the Bearcats had no turnovers in route to a 34-10 win over the Panthers.

Cincinnati did show improvement in several areas, despite the turnovers. George Winn rushed for a career high 147 yards and Legaux was 20 of 27 for 208 yards with a pair of touchdowns to go with the four turnovers. The Bearcats defense was solid again as well, not allowing the Hornets to get closer than the 39-yard line before the fourth quarter.

One of Cincinnati's concerns after the opening win over Pittsburgh was Legaux's trouble to complete routine throws. He was only 2 of 3 for 5 yards with an interception and a fumble during a scoreless third quarter Saturday. The offense's struggles prompted loud boos from the crowd of 27,112.

The Bearcats next play against the Virginia Tech Hokies on September 29 after a bye week. The time for the VT game has not yet been determined.
